One is definitely better than two.

 

Lumbar punctures are notoriously difficult and currently require a two-person team to perform. This tool streamlines the procedural effort, allowing it to be easily performed by a single individual.

Streamlined Component Management

The needle, valve, glass manometer and collection vials are consolidated into a single unit. This leaves one hand free to control the flow of fluid from the 3-way valve.

Easier Fluid Collection

Collection vials can be slid into place along a highlighted track, eliminating the need for a second pair of hands. The level of fluid in each vial is easily visible to ensure a sufficient sample is collected the first time.

A better experience for patients and doctors.

Using existing devices, physicians may need to reinsert the needle several times to ensure correct placement. This is both inefficient and frustrating for the physician and patient.

Stability and Ergonomics

Because these needles are flexible, it is difficult to maintain a straight path of insertion. This is one of the main reasons a physician may need to reinsert the needle multiple times. This tool enables a more stable needle insertion, reducing the number of attempts necessary.

Shoulder-based needle placement

Accuracy and precision of needle placement is improved by shifting from a wrist-based movement to shoulder-based one. Once the needle is inserted the device helps keep the needles trajectory straight.

Multiple hand postures supported

This tool can be used in both the right and left hand. The ergonomic curves support multiple hand sizes and postures. The shape allows for an easy, neutral grip that maximizes stability.

 
 
 

Prototyping
